The King of Kings: Meet "Divine Comedy" Cast Member Kurt Kingsley

For Kurt Kingsley, playing the larger-than-life role of Viceroy in "The Coach of the Holy Sacrament" is a real treat.

Not usually outspoken, Kurt enjoys taking on characters that allow him to step outside his comfort zone.

“I’m from the Midwest and I had to blend in,” said Kurt. “It’s refreshing to not do that from time to time.”

He also plays the role of Felix in "Saint Felix and HIs Potatoes," the other "heavenly" comedy featured in The Storm Theatre and Blackfriars Repertory Theatre co-production of "Divine Comedy running this fall.

Kurt owes his love of acting to Shakespeare. “I love the challenge of dealing with the heightened language and having to tease out the meaning,” he explains.

Kurt recently finished his sixth season with Hip-to-Hip Theater where he played Touchstone in "As You Like It," directed by David Mold, and the title role in "Julius Caesar," directed by Joel Leffert. He also also performed as Gratiano in "Merchant of Venice;" the title role in "Cymbeline;" the Duke in "Two Gentlemen of Verona;" Polonius in "Hamlet;" Leonato in "Much Ado;" and Macduff in the play that shall not be named.

Kurt has appeared in the staged reading of "King Lear," adapted, directed and starring Paul Sorvino, at Shrunken Shakespeare. Regionally, he has worked with the Northeast Theatre and the Alabama Shakespeare Festival.

Kurt’s other credits include playing the Author in The Storm Theatre’s production of "The Surprise," performances with Emerging Artists, American Globe, New Ensemble, LITE Theatre, and Stella Adler Studio Theatre, as well as appearances at the NY Fringe Festival.

See Kurt perform in “Divine Comedy” running Sept. 30 through Oct. 22, at Grand Hall. Tickets can be purchased at www.SmartTix.com.
